Gardeners and gymnasts are liable to get itchy ears. If you wear hearing-aids that will make it worse yet you still need to hear. Just check first that it is not an ear infection. Long ago our Doctor gave us the 3-day rule. If we are unwell for longer than 3 days go and see him.
If you are fine, a device called the Drystore can dry out hearing aids overnight. It works by heat, moving air, and a desiccating tablet to remove moisture. It crumbles wax stuck in the hearing tube so it falls out. (Wearing hearing aids means we have to get over the ‘yuck wax’ factor as putting something in our ears means the wax cannot slip out in its usual way. ) Wax lubricates the ear canals so we all want it really. Lack of wax can also cause itchiness; we always recommend checking with an Audiologist.
Putting on dry hearing-aids in the morning may calm your ears especially if they are in a cycle of producing more condensation than usual. Hearing-aid mould material can be a bit unforgiving so drying it can help your comfort. It might be a bit radical but you could take one out whilst gardening or exercising. One of our clients puts his mobile in his pocket so his wife can call him if she wants him. He winked when he said this so I think he switches it to silent or off. His wife gave me a rueful smile: of course she knows. Just like my mother knew that Dad was sterilising his tomatoe compost in the microwave.
The best thing for us is that you can leave the battery in the hearing aid. Fiddle-free!
