Ear Plugs Have Fun

Music gigs, which are held in confined areas apparently, are good for earplugs. If you put it that way round to your own teens, they will make you promise never to do that in public. Roll of eyes and alright they will try them out.

When meeting their friends you are not allowed to ask “parent questions” . I was agog.
“What’s a parent question?”
“Which Uni, what course, boring stuff.”    Ah, so the first question that a naturally interested mother would ask, must not be verbalised.   It was only borderline interest on my part, now I am insanely curious!
Giving earplugs works. Ninety percent of children and teens will be polite and look at them (admittedly like they are off-planet bacteria) and stick them in their pockets. When the plugs get in the way of pockets crammed with phone, keys and ipods, they might think about wearing them. We live in hope.
There are a lot of ‘if’s’ here although current generation of teens are exactly the same as ours. They listen but they want to make their own opinion and decision. It will be coloured by yours. Maybe parents could wear them to a concert? And don’t say no, it is not helpful. How can we expect them to do it if you refuse? These are acoustic earplugs that cut down loudness and leave you to enjoy the experience.
Why are we saying this? It’s Dad-figures really; children need Dads as much as mother-figures, sometimes more so when it comes to wearing music earplugs. Save yourself thousands in hearing aids later and not just yours, the children as well.   We have a fantastic generation in our universities. They have been taught to think.  Let's use our life experience of hearing loss that happens because of music that we know is too loud and keep them safe.
